Apples first evolved in central Asia and are one of the oldest fruit trees on Earth. Since

BCE, the trees have been cross-hybridized and artificially selected for size, taste, and 

texture. Alexander the Great brought apples to Western Civilization during his conquests 

where apples continued to be modified based on human preference, bringing about the 

incredible amount of diversity we see today.
