A new study suggests that Alzheimer’s disease could be a late stage of type 2 diabetes. Diabetes causes changes to the brain which have been associated with Alzheimer’s, but researchers recently discovered that the hippocampus of patients with type 2 diabetes is not sensitive to insulin, making the brain “diabetic”. This leaves insoluble plaques of a protein called beta-amyloid in the brain, which are considered an onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
