The cage-like microbots (which are shown in this image at a much larger scale along with researcher Professor Zhang Li) could replace the need for risky eye and brain operations. Once injected into the body, the robots will be guided wirelessly with an electromagnetic field. Although they're currently being tested in animals, they could take decades to be ready for human use.
